The battle of Haldighati
who won the battle of Haldighati? The Mughals or Maharana Pratap?
This battle take place between Mughals and Maharana Pratap on 18 June in 1576. Technically Mughals won this battle but failed to capture Pratap, who continued the war and was able to take most of the lost areas.
Background of this battle
After the lost of Chittor in 1567, Udai Singh took refuge in forest of Rajpipili. In 1572 Udai Singh died and Maharana Pratap succeeded the throne of Mewar at Gogunda. Akbar dispatched the series of diplomatic relations with Pratap, asking the rajput king to become his vassal, but all attempts were failed. At last the battle of Haldighati took place.

Akbar deputed Raja Man Singh against Maharana, who had setup capital at Kumbhalgarh from Googunda. Raja Man Singh setup his base at Mandalgarh. On 18 June 1576, three hours after the sun rise the battle commenced at haldighati , around 23 kms north from Gogunda.
Rana Pratap assisted by Hakim Khan sur of Suri dynasty, Bhim Singh of Dodia, Ramdas Rathore(son of Jaimal,who defend Chitoor), Bida Mana and his clans of jala.
However the forces of Rana Mewar were outnumbered against the imperial Mughal forces and the Mughal forces defeated Maharana in this battle. Maharana however, escaped from the battle field and took shelter at Koliyari a hilly town in west of Gounda (south Mewar).
