Why Jodhpur is called the blue city of India?

The blue city of India named as Jodhpur in Rajasthan. It second largest city in Rajasthan. It was a historically capital of Marwar. It is a tourist destination, it has a featuring of palaces, forts and many more things    .It is also known as the blue city of the Rajasthan and very popular in India.
The reasons that it is known as blue city is due to its bright and sunny weather throughout the year ,owing the sacredness of blue color, this is the city of priestly caste of India.

The background of the blue city named as Jodhpur

The popular city reveals around Rathore clan. Rao Jodha, the chief of the Rathore clan, is credited with the origin of Jodhpur in India. It was founded in 1459. This city is named after him. It was previously known as Marwar.

The Rathores were driven out of their original homeland, Kaunaj, by Afhgans. They fled to Pali, near the present day Jodhpur. Rathore Siahaji married the sister of a local prince. This helped the Rathores to establish and strengthen themselves in this origin. In sometime they ousted the Pratiharas of Mandore just 9km of Jodhpur. Initially Mandore served as their capital, but, 1459, Rathores felt a need of secure capital. This leads to formation of Jodhpur, the sun city, by Rao Jodha.
Many palaces are there.


They enjoyed good relations with all the Mughals, expect Aurangzeb. Maharaja Jaswant Singh even supported Shahjahan in his struggle of succession. after Aurangzeb's death Maharaja Ajit Singh drove out Mughals from Ajmer and it to Marwar (present Jodhpur). Under the region of Umed Singh, Jodhpur grow into a fine city.
During the rule of British , the state of Jodhpur was the largest in Rajputana, by land area. Jodhpur proposed under the British Raj. Its merchants, the Marwaris flourished endlessly. They came to occupy a dominant position in trade throughout India. In 1947 India became independent and the state merged into union of India. It became the second city of  Rajasthan.

4 Also known as sun city because there rulers are sun worshipers

THIRD BATTLE OF PANIPAT   This battle took place in Panipat on 14 January 1761, at Panipat, about 60 miles north of Delhi between northern expeditionary force of the Maratha Empire and the king of Afghanistan, Ahmad Shah Durrani with two Indian Muslim allies-The Rohilla Afghans of the Doab, and Shuja-ud-Daula, the Nawab of Oudh. Background of the 3rd Battle of Panipat The decline of  Mughal empire following the 27 year Mughal Martha war(1680-1707) had led to rapid territorial gains for the Maratha empire. Under Peshwa Baji Rao Gujarat, Malwa came under Maratha empire.
